What
is the Digital Connectors program?
Digital Connectors are youth leaders
who connect their communities to
technology and the greater opportunities
of the Digital Age. The Digital
Connectors program provides hands-on
training and leadership development
to youth ages 14-21. Youth gain
technology and leadership skills,
community service experience and
exposure to career opportunities.

What
do Digital Connectors do?
Digital Connectors serve as technology
ambassadors for their communities.
They spread the word about the power
of technology to help people live
better lives. They motivate their
friends, family and neighbors to
connect to the Internet in their
very own homes.
Digital Connectors introduce people
to a community website, The Beehive.org,
where they can take action on the
things that matter most and improve
their lives. Digital Connectors
help produce and update the New
York Beehive. Youth also promote
technology and provide tech support
to families through computer fairs
held at community centers. Digital
Connectors also do fun activities
like create multimedia projects
and visit tech companies.

What
is The Beehive.org?
Digital Connectors teach residents
to use The Beehive.org, a self-help
website made just for them. The Beehive
(www.thebeehive.org) connects people
in Washington Heights to local information
and resources about Money, Jobs, Health,
School and Family. It’s a short
cut to the services and opportunities
that people need most: health care,
child care, employment, homework help,
and smart money skills. The Beehive
is available in English and Spanish,
and it’s easy to read. At the
Beehive, you’ll always get local
information, free email, and advice
that you can trust.

How
is the Digital Connectors program
different from other youth technology
programs?
The Digital Connectors program goes
beyond teaching youth technology
skills. The program prepares youth
to serve as leaders in creating
a new digital culture, a way of
being, in their own communities.
They connect their neighbors to
computers and the Internet, while
building strong community relationships.
Digital Connectors
gain youth leadership skills, new
experiences, and a chance to serve
their community. Youth will learn
to make decisions, engage in hands-on
learning, become team players, and
contribute to a positive change
in their own community. They’ll
also learn about career opportunities
through site visits to technology
companies and job shadowing experiences.
Being a Digital Connector can also
help youth decide on their future
– what they want to do with
their life and how to achieve their
goals.
